Female peregrines lay three to five eggs in two- to three-day intervals that are incubated for approximately 33 days. This year, Hera has produced a clutch of five eggs. She and Zeus are now taking shifts incubating. We anticipate the first egg to hatch around May 12th.
And she's doing a great job keeping them warm and dry. Although we have had constant rain for several hours, she remains on the eggs. She's such a good mama.
When Hera took a stretch late afternoon on Tuesday, I noticed that she was sitting on three eggs. If you are keeping track: first egg appeared 4/6/11, second egg was noticed 4/10/11 and the third egg came sometime in the afternoon on 4/12/11.
